Meta threatens to remove news on Facebook in the US
Due to a proposed legistlation Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, threatens to disable news on the American Facebook if the new law passes. The new law would give news organisations greater power to negotiate fees for content shared on Facebook, but Meta argues that publishers, wether large or small, already earn a good chunk of the ad revenue money with the bonus addition of driving greater traffic to news sources. A similar situation occurred in Australia in march 2021 with then Facebook shutting down news on the app for a brief moment. Meta officials say that the company earns less than 4% of its profits from news publishers and so there isn't any need for this law to be passed. From my point of view I would rather have the law be passed because I don't find one of the biggest companies on Earth losing a miniscule amount of profits to be worrying.
