Archeologists and an unusual finding

A Roman grave from 255 - 433 AD was recently found containing the remains of a mother, her unborn child and her mother-in-law. The cause of death is believed to be an illness as there are no physical markings that would suggest otherwise. Experts find this family grave to be quite out of the ordinary as most Roman graves contain only one body. It is suggested that the community these people belonged to wanted to celebrate the family's relation by burying them together. A later DNA analysis project was able to recognise the 32-36 weeks old fetus to be a boy.

I think that archeologic findings like this one are important to finding out the human past. It is fascinating that we are still discovering new and interesting things from many centuries ago. If not for nature's ability to preserve even ancient things we probably wouldn't know so much about our ancestors.

  1. If the child was unborn, no wonder it was buried with the mother. They wouldn't cut it out if the knew the baby was dead, just to bury the separately. I guess.
